Model Zone Scalextric Roadshow
SCHOOLS BATTLE IT OUT TO BECOME TOP OF THE TRACKS
Modelzone at Centrale Shopping Centre is hosting the penultimate leg of the national Scalextric Road Show for schools. The event, supported by Top Gear’s James May, is taking place on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th of June.
Schools from all over the South East area will battle it out to become top of the Scalextric racing board on Friday 26th June between 10am and 2:30pm! Each school will showcase their own vehicle designs and race against each other for a place in the Sheffield final (10th of July) and a chance to become champion of the Scalextric School Challenge 2009.
The general public will also get the chance to be involved in the fun. On Saturday the 27th June the track will be open all day to anybody that fancies their chances behind the wheel. Scores will be kept on a public score board – in true Top Gear style – and the winner will receive a Scalextric Start Race Set worth £39.99.
The initiative, which encourages school teams across the country to design, produce and race a vehicle on a Scaelextric4schools special stage track, has been created by Hornby Hobbies in partnership with PTC, software provider to Hornby, to drive school children’s interest in science and engineering.
David Parham, Centre Manager at Centrale Shopping Centre, comments, “We are honoured to be chosen as a key host for the Scalextric Road Show in conjunction with Modelzone. The initiative is a great way of inspiring young people to learn about science and engineering while putting their creative skills to the test.”
The Scaelextric4schools special stage track will be set up in the central atrium at Centrale Shopping Centre near Debenhams. Furthermore, for anybody that wants to take the Scalextric experience home with them, Modelzone will be offering 15% off all Scalextric models throughout the duration of the event.
