KIDS GET CRAFTY IN THE CREDIT CRUNCH AT CENTRALE!

Croydon mums are not letting their kids go without, despite the recent economic downturn. In a recent survey conducted by the Early Learning Centre in Centrale Shopping Centre, it was shown that 40% of mums were getting ‘hands on’ by making things and doing crafts with their kids.

Early Learning Centre branch manager Lynne Hudman comments, “We have noticed that our craft toys are flying off the shelves. This may be in part because they are good value, but the feedback we have had from mums is that doing these activities together keeps the kids amused for longer. Furthermore, once parents get ‘stuck in’ they love the interaction with their children and come back to try something new. From craft bag fairies, to make your own monsters – there’s something to suit all tastes! ”

The mums surveyed were asked what they were doing to keep their kids happy now their purse-strings have been tightened. A further 20% were playing together as a family more and just 3% were continuing to purchase toys on credit cards. 27% of the mums surveyed were finding free things to do in the local area.

The mums surveyed had all brought their kids to Early Learning Centre’s FREE ‘Playtime Tuesday’ sessions and 100% of them would recommend the mornings to other mums. Held in store every Tuesday morning from 10am, the sessions cater for children of all ages, with plenty of educational toys to play with and crafty competitions. It’s also a great chance for Croydon parents and grandparents to meet.

Zara, mum of Kyla (18 months) says, “It gives my daughter a break from the pushchair and it’s also a good way of knowing what to buy her for home ” and Susan, mum of Charlie (3 years), reckons “It’s a great way to bribe kids with fun when I need to go out to get shopping ”.
